Controlling the Depth of Your Retrieve

If you want to keep your fly nearer bottom, when fly-fishing from a boat, simply hold the tip of the rod under water at the desired depth. Of course you have to cast your line and fly first, but after casting, simply place the rod tip down beside the boat as you retrieve your line and fly. At first you may bring in the fly beyond the leader, but after some practice you will get the "feel" of it, so it will not be a problem.
